A weeks work experience at Blueberry Marketing

“I learnt something new every day at Blueberry.”

Discover how Arisha enjoyed her week at Blueberry Marketing Solutions in her own words.

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Arisha worked alongside our Blueberry Marketing Solutions team as part of her school’s work experience scheme.
Find out how the artistic teenager got on:

My name’s Arisha and I currently go to Carr Manor Community School, in Leeds. I really look forward to my Chemistry lessons in school, especially the experiments with the different chemicals. I enjoy getting to work alongside my classmates.

I love to challenge myself, so Maths gives me the chance to tackle difficult problems. In my spare time I love to sketch and draw sceneries.  Art is my favourite hobby, as well as playing with my cat, Maggie!

WHY I CHOSE BLUEBERRY FOR MY WORK EXPERIENCE

I chose to do my work experience in a marketing agency because I was curious about what they did. I wanted to try something new and broaden my knowledge of the different careers. Last year, my brother completed his work experience at Blueberry. He talked so much about how much he enjoyed it, I got in touch with them too.

WHAT I DID DURING MY WORK EXPERIENCE

I learnt something new every day whilst at Blueberry. I learnt about Excel and how to use it, which improved my computer skills. I found it a bit difficult at the start, but the team were always there to help me. I think I have got the hang of it now!

I have also got involved with the content marketing, not only creating this blog but also playing a role in developing a content marketing strategy for National Apprenticeship Week. This gave me an insight into branding, social media and advertising, which I found fun as I love seeing how ideas come to life.

WHAT I LEARNT OVER THE WEEK

This week has taught me a lot. I learnt practical skills, which are useful for working in an office, such as how to use spread sheets, Excel, and Word. As well as understanding the different channels which marketers use to communicate with their audience like emails and content marketing such as blogs, telemarketing and social media. I feel that I can benefit from the skills that I developed this week. One of my favourite tasks was learning about graphic design, something which suited my passion for all things art and I would love to learn more about this in the future.

The thing I will take away most from this week was meeting new people who really helped me improve on the skills I feel I needed to work on. Little things like talking to people and being more confident. I am now definitely more comfortable with approaching people for help and guidance. I was constantly encouraged to ask questions and I even delivered a presentation at the end of the week! I have not only got a glimpse into what it’s like working at a marketing agency, but have also become more confident in myself!

A note from Blueberry’s Managing Director, Faresh Maisuria:

We love having the opportunity to give the next generation an insight into the world of work and supporting their skills development. I would highly recommend businesses to give school students a chance of gaining real life experience by joining the Enterprise Advisors Network.
